Interview with Joanne Walsh, The famous Knitwear Designer

Knitwear designer Joanne Walsh was born and grew up in the east coast in the United States. She later moved to the World’s City of fashion—NewYork, and received the education in the world-famous. fashion institute of technology, State university of New York.’

After graduation, Joanne specialized in the design and craftsmanship of knitwear. She also travel to European and Asian, to see from her American eye of view, put the east and west culture into her design. Soon before, Joanne opened her first exclusive shop in East Village, Mahattan center.

    In the past 10 years, depend on her special understanding of Asian and European culture, Jonanne’s design not only become quite popular among the consumers, but also gain the favour of many stars like Li bingbing, Wang luodan, Li jing, Xu gehui.

    For a long time, she focused on the reform of knite technology, to let its mission pays more attention to show woman’s independence nature, but not the appearance. Joannne fancy the simple design idea.

1、How do you become a knitting designer?

Joanne Walsh: I’ve always dreamd of become a design, when I was young, my grandmother would dress me and my older sister. When I entered senior high school, I hardly can found my favorite dress, so I began to design my own colthes.

2, What made you so enjoy your fashion design career?

Joanne Walsh: In my design career, I enjoyed the fun innovation brought me. As a designer, I need to devise fabric, create the unique shell fabric, I can use different knit method to make different design and color. This made my work full of artistry and creativity.

3. When people wear the knit goods you made, what impress them most?

Joanne Walsh: To a fashion design, the best thing you want to see is that the clothes you design can change other people’s mood, When people feel blue, they prefer to chose a cloth to make them looking amazing. I am quite glad that my work can bring happiness to other people.

4. Do you have any interesting suggestion about the fashion tendency this autumn & winter season?

Joanne Walsh: The most important tendency this Autumn & Winter season is the mix and match between light and heavy, thick and thin.

5. What do you like best except fashion design?

Joanne Walsh: I like traveling, listening to music, I also will go to the museum when I am free. What I like best is cooking. I really enjoy the weekend to taste the delicious food with my friends.

6. Do these interests connect with art bring you any inspiration to the design this season?

Joanne Walsh: Sure. For example, I go to a concert, maybe my beloved singer will bring me inspiration . In other case I go to a museum to enter an art exhibition, the color of a picture may bring me inspiration, even the nature of the painter will bring me deep influence.

7、 Would you like to introduce us several your favorite fashion designer?

Joanne Walsh: Ann Demeulemeester、Dries Van Noten as well as the Japanese designer Yohji Yamamoto are my favourite. They are more like Artists I also fancy Pringle’s knit goods designer..
